Dont throw your mobile phone ?

Hi friends ,
Today we use various cell phones and replace with the new ones. But you know each cell phone is made with 40 precious metals.

When you throw a mobile phone , you are throwing 40 precious metals in to the Garbage. As Mobile revolution increased ,lot of mobile phones getting scrapped due to obsolent technology. If you properly dispose and recycle mobile phones we can recover precious metals from it for example

So dont throw the mobile phones and dispose it properly.

Do u want to know what is LED TV ?

Today we are seeing very slim monitors , phones and many other electronic gadgets. All these are the result of a revolution technology LCD (Liquid crystal display).

All LCD need uniform white light to illuminate the screen. They are two technologies available today to lit this.
1. Edge lit display
2. Direct lit display

In the Direct lit display an array of LED is arranged back of the screen and a screen is placed in front of it . it will creates a uniform light.

In the Edge lit , LED s are arranged at the end of the diffuser plates. Edge lit displays create more slim designs.

Main components of LED TV are

First LED source ---> Light guide plate -->  diffuser --> Brightenss enhancement films --> Prism films --> LCD panel.

Back lit sources take nearly 90% of electricity which TV consumes and 40% of all its material cost.

In an LED TV these back light sources are LEDs.  In ordinary LCD TVs  sources of light are CCFL (cold cathode flouroscent lamps)

Secret of bed of nails

Why Ballon does not blast when pressed on bed of nails ?

When a ballon is brought near the sharp edge of nail , it will break. But when we press a balloon on the bed of nails it will not break.

The reason is based on the simple principle
Pressure  = Force/Area

In the first case , area of the tip of nail is small and all the pressure acts on that tip resulting in breaking of balloon. In the second case we have a bed of nails , Here area increases and pressure per unit area on the balloon decreases resulting in non breaking of balloon.

This phenomenon is observed in many examples in our daily lifes

Day lighting

Energy is precious. With out energy we can not think of our world. Energy efficiency procedures are very important. More importantly saving one unit of energy stops the release of 4 kg of carbon dioxide from thermal power plant.

Today we are utilizing Indoor artificial lighting by consuming power. Although we have a big source of light "The sun" in morning we are neglecting that free energy. By utilizing solar energy we can replace artificial light sources thus by saving power.

How can we utilize solar energy. In this article iam going to discuss one path.

By using light pipe we can able to bring Sun light in to indoor environments. It has a dome which collects sunlight and a hollow transparent pipe which transmits light  and a diffuser. Main advantage of light pipe is it can bring daylight in to deep interior spaces.

Three new elements discovered

The Size of the Periodic table is increased Now. The international union of Pure and applied physics (IUPAC) declared three New elements. With this declaration Periodic table size increased from 109 to 112.

The three new elements are
1. darmstadtium (Ds), (110) (it was named in the town it which it is discovered)
2. roentgenium (Rg) and ( Named after X - ray discoverer Roentgen)
3. copernicium (Cn). ( Named after polish astronomer copernicus)

All these are artificial elements. They will not occur in nature. These elements also not have a long life.

Three apples that changed the world

Apples have a Great significant role in changing the world. In those we discuss three significant things

1. First apple :
Eve eating the apple with out listening the Creator words

2. Second apple :
Apple falling from tree made Einstein to develop the Classical mechanics and Gravitational law and changed the way we understand the world.

3. Third apple :
Steve jobs created and established amazing creative company and changed the way of personal computing and many electronic Gadgets.

Still how many apples will come , we have to wait and see.

Why Ships float on water

Why ships float on water ?

Ships are made with Heavy steel body , occupied with no of materials ,persons , Goods but still it is floating.  Can u guess why ?

When u drop a small iron piece in to water it will sink , but such heavy body ship floating on water.

This is a simple concept. Any body float or sink depending up on its density. In the case of Ship , it consists of lot of rooms and hull which is occupied with air , which is less denser than water. Thats why ships float on water.

If air volume decreases ship will sink.

Biofuels

We are using Conventional fuel sources to meet our energy needs , transportation etc., Our energy needs has been increased many fold from Industrial revolution. In the near future the energy needs will increase more. But unfortunately our conventional fuel energy sources are limited.

What is the Solution ?

Biofuels is one of the Solution to the above problem. They are three Significant generation of biofuels
1. Biofuels from food crops
2. Biofuels from Cellulose
3. Biofuels from Algae

Food crops like Sugar cane , Corn are used to derive biofuel in the earlier days. But they are creating another problem . Problem is competing with food which feed lot of population. So  it is not a good option.

In the second generation technologies are developed to derive biofuels from Non food crops and any cellulose material.  Best example for India is Jastropha. But process cost is high.

Now the Researchers in the world wide are working to derive biofuel from  Algae which is abundant on earth and easy to cultivate.

Some biofuels will also be derived from Animal fats.

Examples of Biofuels are  Methanol , Ethanol. They have a high octane value when compared with conventional fuels. Methonol or Ethanol are mixed in a certain proportion with petroleum or diesel . These fuels reduce the harmful gas emissions like carbon monoxide.

Biofuels are regarded as a renewable option. Because the amount of carbon dioxide it is absorbed during growing is released by burning . There is no gain of excess green house gas.

The main challenge ahead for this technology is  cost competative and  reducing competion with food needs.

                                                                                                                  Thank you ...........

Problem based learning

In Problem based learning
1. Teacher poses a problem
2. Students list what they know regarding problem and what they dont know
3. Tried to learn themselves independently or in group regarding unknown things
4. Teacher acts as a mentor, not act as a source of solutions.

Really it is a beautiful process of learning. But today teacher oriented learning dominating . This is not giving scope to children to learn creatively. Practical way of learning is killing today in corporate culture. Even students are not ready to study even single paper of text and learn by themselves.

It is really a serious issue to think on.

Nuclear power

Is Nuclear Energy Safer ?

Nuclear energy is safer and one of Good renewable option. In India we have less uranium  levels to produce nuclear power. But after processing uranium , Plutonium is produced. From plutonium , Thorium is produced.
By using Plutonium and Thorium as a raw materials we can able to produce power from nuclear plants.

But it takes 8 years to build a Plutonium based power plant.  With in the next 20 to 30 years nuclear power take a significant part in indian energy needs.

Why we go to Renewable energies

They are two types of fuels . Conventional fuels , another one is the renewable fuels.  Examples of conventional fuels are coal , petrol, gasoline.  unfortunately they are limited reserves. As today energy demand is increasing day by day fossil fuel resouces are decreasing. Although these create lot of Green house gas emissions .

Now where we get our energy needs . Solution to this Renewable energies. Renewable energies means they will not deplinish. They are cleaner and not emit green house gas emissions. In india we have a huge oppurtunity to grab Renewable sources. Main important renewable sources are
1. Solar energy
2. Wind energy
3. Biomass and Biofuels
4. Nuclear and Hydal power.

Although Nuclear is a cleaner fuel. Its potential is less in india.

Tomarrow Renewable energies , Technologies based on these concepts have a greater future.
