Why Ballon does not blast when pressed on bed of nails ?
When a ballon is brought near the sharp edge of nail , it will break. But when we press a balloon on the bed of nails it will not break.
The reason is based on the simple principle
Pressure = Force/Area
In the first case , area of the tip of nail is small and all the pressure acts on that tip resulting in breaking of balloon. In the second case we have a bed of nails , Here area increases and pressure per unit area on the balloon decreases resulting in non breaking of balloon.
This phenomenon is observed in many examples in our daily lifes
